Custom Laptop Stands

In line with our production discussions of last class, I designed a definition in Grasshopper that you can use to generate custom laptop stands.

Here are a few shots of the definition’s results, ready to laser cut. Click on any picture to enlarge it. The design shown here is a slightly lighter version of what I cut, that could be designed for a smaller computer (this is MacBook sizing).

My MacBook Pro Stand

It was designed to have the right lift of my laptop’s screen so that it rests evenly with an adjacent monitor. Here are two shots of it actually in place on my desk:

It has some basis on the strut design we saw in class last week so I am sharing my work with the world to hope other people can learn from it to. Go ahead and download these definitions and scenes to see the work in Rhino and Grasshopper.
